Red Rock Creative is run by Diane Mitchell. With over twenty-five years experience in developing content for exhibits, educational programs and other publications, Diane has a proven track record in science and cultural heritage interpretation as well as in supporting organizations in their writing needs.
With a graduate degree in geology, Diane has spent her career in the realm of museums, attractions and non-profits. Twelve years at the National Museums of Scotland cemented her passion for engaging others on the natural world. During that time, she became a key player on a number of national, cross-organizational geoscience education initiatives.
As a settler arriving in Canada in 2007, Diane moved to the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation. Working as the Curator at the award-winning Britannia Mine Museum, her experience expanded to include social history and environmental science. Integrating contemporary issues and lessons learned from the past are frequently in her work. She played a key role in the $15 million 2010 redevelopment of the Britannia Mine Museum, and the $5 million BOOM! show in 2019.
Diane launched Red Rock Creative to expand opportunities for interpretive planning and writing, which is now her full time endeavour, working with clients nationally. Diane works independently or subcontracts to exhibit design firms, including as a Content Developer with Panther Creative. She also provides content development and writing services to Geoscience BC and the UNESCO Átl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound Biosphere Region and is keen to work with organizations whose values strive for building a sustainable future.
In 2015, Diane also completed a labour-of-love project by writing the book In Love With Earth in Squamish & Whistler.
